Beach closed until further notice after a road accident
Late on Thursday night into Friday (16 July), shortly before 11 pm, a driver left the road on the L96 Auen-Süduferstraße. The car broke through the fence of our beach and came to rest in Lake Wörthersee. According to the police the driver, reported to be a 21-year-old Croatian man, is thought to have lost control of the vehicle because of inappropriate speed. A breath test was negative.
The accident triggered a major response, because at first it was feared the driver was still inside the car. Around 70 responders from eleven fire brigades, among them Schiefling, Augsdorf, Reifnitz and Velden, the diving and water service, three water rescue organisations and the Red Cross were on the scene. The driver was able to free himself and was taken to Villach hospital with minor injuries. The vehicle was lifted out of the lake by fire brigade crane, and the Süduferstraße was closed completely during the recovery. According to the emergency services, no fuel or oil escaped into the lake.
Our beach is therefore closed until further notice. The fence, the steps and parts of the beach installation were damaged and have to be repaired first. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
As a replacement, the Wörthersee Plus Card is available for our guests to collect in the breakfast room.
